Morocco Streamlines Airport Security, Easing Congestion at Casablanca Gateway

Friday 7 March 2025, by Said

Travelers departing from Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport can now breathe a sigh of relief. The endless traffic jams at the security checkpoints upon entry are over.

The National Airports Office (ONDA) has made a radical decision: to remove the scanners and gates at the main entrance. A measure aimed at decongesting access and offering passengers a more pleasant experience.

ONDA wants travelers to be able to move freely as soon as they arrive, and quickly reach all the entry points of the airport. This initiative is part of a broader approach, which aims to give a facelift and rejuvenate the airport experience, between modernization of procedures and improvement of comfort.

Hicham Rahil, the airport director, explains that this reorganization is not just a relocation of equipment. It is a complete overhaul of the access system, carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the Royal Gendarmerie. "The transfer of security control devices to the entry points has not only helped speed up the arrival of passengers, but has also made it possible to completely rethink the access system, while maintaining the highest security standards," he said.

This small revolution is part of a long-term strategy called "Airports 2030". The idea? Put the traveler at the center of concerns, with the optimization of services as a common thread.

And the movement is not going to stop there. After Casablanca, it is the Marrakech airport that should follow suit in the coming days. ONDA promises that other measures are being studied to further improve efficiency and service quality throughout the Kingdom. The stated ambition is to make Moroccan airports a benchmark in terms of accessibility and security.
