Morocco-Spain Ferry Routes Reopen, Motorhome Travelers Hesitant to Return

Motorhome enthusiasts have mixed views on the resumption of maritime traffic between Morocco and Spain, which was formalized after the reconciliation between the two countries.
Maritime links between Spain and Morocco have gradually resumed on April 12, after two years of suspension due to the health crisis and the diplomatic crisis. Since then, shipping companies have been operating crossings between the Moroccan ports of Tanger Med and Tanger-Ville and the Spanish ports of Algeciras and Tarifa. On April 19, passenger and vehicle traffic from Algeciras, Tarifa and Almería to Moroccan ports also resumed.
The resumption of maritime traffic between Morocco and Spain thus gives Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) and motorhome enthusiasts the opportunity to return to Morocco. But the latter have mixed views on this resumption. The news delights some. "Yes, we will have more space in the campsites in southern Spain which, this year, have been invaded by those who could not go to Morocco," says MD, a motorhome enthusiast, on the website Lemondeducampingcar.fr. "That way there will maybe be less people in Spain and Portugal," comments Jacky, another motorhome enthusiast. "Yes, it will decongest Spain," says Bruno.
Others, on the other hand, have expressed fear of a new interruption. The resumption of maritime traffic is good news "provided that the Morocco-Spain links are not closed again without notice by the Moroccan government in a few weeks: this is not at all excluded...," fears Pierre-Yves. For Tino, it’s "too late for this year". "No, it’s not good news. No interest in going to Morocco if it’s to crowd into camps on the verge of unhealthiness," replies Philippe. "As for me, Morocco doesn’t interest me. But you’re tiring me with ’let’s stay in France’. France is beautiful, okay, but Italy, Greece, Croatia, and many other countries are beautiful too. Let’s stay curious," Fabienne gets annoyed.
