Morocco, Spain, and Portugal Unite in Historic Bid for 2030 World Cup

In his Throne Day speech delivered on Saturday, King Mohammed VI welcomed Morocco’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup. A "unprecedented" bid that, according to the monarch, "builds a bridge between two continents and two civilizations".
Morocco was working with its "friends in Spain and Portugal" so that "this candidacy will leave its mark in history," said Mohammed VI, adding that it "builds a bridge between two continents and two civilizations, Africa and Europe, and unites the two shores of the Mediterranean." For the monarch, this candidacy which he announced last March, and which constitutes a "precedent in the history of football", "embodies very well the ambition of the peoples of the region to move forward together towards more collaboration, understanding and communion".
Mohammed VI will resume this year’s Throne Day festivities. This Sunday, he is offering a reception on the Place de la Préfecture in the town of M’diq, near Tetouan. Tomorrow, Monday, he will preside, in his capacity as Chief of the General Staff, over the swearing-in ceremony of officers and graduates of military, paramilitary and civilian schools and institutes on the Place du Mechouar, the royal palace of Tetouan, which will be followed by a reception for the officers of the Royal Guard.
In the afternoon, the Sovereign will preside over the "beia", a ceremony during which the notables pay homage to the king. The elected personalities (ministers, parliamentarians, mayors) and those appointed by the monarch in the regions of the country or at the head of public bodies are invited. In his speech, Mohammed VI also called for a "return to normality" in relations with Algeria, which he described as "stable", while hoping that they will "improve".
