Morocco Slashes Non-Essential Government Spending in Three-Year Budget Plan

Reducing public spending and focusing sectoral actions on priorities to cope with the economic situation. This is the instruction given by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to ministers, administrations and public institutions.
The various ministerial departments are thus called upon to develop proposals for a three-year budget programming (PBT) 2023-2025, accompanied by objectives and performance indicators, taking this measure into account, indicates a circular signed by Akhannouch.
Thus, it is recommended to eliminate non-essential expenses, such as transportation or travel expenses, vehicle fleet management, rental and furnishing of headquarters, premises layout, travel abroad, receptions, ceremonies, conferences and symposia, while ensuring the continuity and proper functioning of public services.
It is also about rationalizing expenses related to studies and submitting the related calls for tenders to the prior authorization of the Prime Minister. These studies should be carried out by the services of the departments concerned.
However, this battery of measures taken by the Prime Minister does not concern ongoing investment projects, especially those for which conventions have been signed before King Mohammed VI and projects financed by international partners, the note specifies.
