Morocco Slashes Biometric ID Card Fees for Children to Boost Adoption

Children will spend less to get the new biometric identity card. This was one of the key amendments introduced by parliamentary advisors to the Finance Bill (PLF 2020).
The authorities are lowering prices to equip Moroccan children with their first biometric identity cards, whether they are 18 years old or not. Thus, the stamp duty applied to application files for obtaining the new CNIE for under 12s will be only 50 dirhams. As for the others, the stamp duty is set at 75 dirhams.
The DGSN (Directorate General of National Security) reassures about the reliability of the new identity cards in terms of security for better service to citizens and organizations. Concretely, the DGSN officials say they have planned different levels of visual, digital and physical security.
Made of polycarbonate, the CNIE will offer some new features such as electronic reading through a standard reader, a scanner or mobile phones supporting NFC technology. But more than that, these cards will also be protected by a PIN code, like bank cards. This will allow citizens to protect themselves against any use of their CNIE in the event of theft or loss. Finally, banks and other financial institutions will be able to avoid many inconveniences by ensuring the real identity of the beneficiaries of their services and benefits.
The effective launch of the new generation of ID cards is scheduled for the beginning of 2020. A real technological revolution, said the same source.
