Morocco Secures €100 Million AFD Loan to Boost Municipal Governance and Services

A loan agreement of 100 million euros has been signed between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the kingdom to support the program to improve the performance of municipalities in Morocco.
According to the AFD, the objective of this program, which runs from 2019 to 2024, is to strengthen the municipal level, which plays a key role in the provision of public services and in the relationship between the administration and the citizen.
This program plans to strengthen governance and increase the level of equipment allocations for the hundred participating municipalities. These account for nearly 80% of the urban population and 50% of the total population of the country.
It also proposes to strengthen the capacities of these municipalities, through technical assistance services and appropriate training.
The program will contribute to the development of inter-communality, with a view to improving the efficiency of certain key public services such as public transport or waste collection.
