Morocco Rises to 57th Most Powerful Country Globally, Leads Maghreb Region

Morocco is ranked 57th most powerful country in the world, gaining four places compared to last year. This is what the US News and World Report 2020 indicates in its latest ranking of the 80 most powerful countries.
Morocco is among the countries that "constantly dominate the headlines, concern policymakers and shape global economic models". According to the ranking, the kingdom is the most powerful country in the Maghreb, followed by Tunisia in 61st place. Algeria, Libya and Mauritania are not among the list of 80 countries.
A survey conducted in partnership with BAV Group and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania was used to establish this year’s ranking. The opinions of more than 20,000 people from 73 countries were collected. "The index focuses on five main axes, namely military strength, the strength of international alliances, economic influence, political influence and leadership," the same source specifies.
At the continental level, Morocco ranks 5th behind Egypt (25), South Africa (32), Kenya (52) and Ghana (55). The kingdom ranks 10th in the Middle East and South Africa behind (8th globally), Saudi Arabia (10), the United Arab Emirates (11), Turkey (16), Qatar (18), Egypt (25), Jordan (33), Lebanon (38) and Oman (39).
The United States tops the global ranking, followed by Russia, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan.
In addition, Morocco occupies the 40th position among the best countries in the world. "The criteria used in the evaluation include adventure, citizenship, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, openness to business, power and quality of life," the same source specifies.
