Morocco plans price reforms from 2027, but hasn’t said what will be affected
Morocco has announced a reform of markets and prices starting in 2027, alongside an increase in direct social assistance. The measures are among the priorities in the next budget, whose main guidelines were approved on Saturday, October 17, at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Mohammed VI.

Price reform and more assistance for families. Morocco is making purchasing power a top budget priority for 2027. On Saturday, October 17, at a Cabinet meeting in Rabat, the government presented a series of measures to support households, as financial difficulties persist despite economic growth.

The main announcement concerns a “structural reform of markets and prices” set to begin in 2027. The Royal Cabinet statement does not specify which products will be affected or what mechanisms are being considered. At this stage, it sets no quantified reductions in consumer prices.
The government also announced an increase in direct social assistance for eligible households. The guidelines also provide for continuing the expansion of medical coverage, strengthening public health and education services, and maintaining the direct housing assistance program.
Growth of 4.7%, but families remain under pressure
The announcements come amid an economic backdrop that authorities consider favorable. According to official forecasts, Morocco is expected to record growth of 4.7% in 2026, inflation of 0.7%, and a public deficit reduced to 3% of GDP.
These indicators contrast with families’ day-to-day difficulties. According to the latest survey by the High Commission for Planning, 39% of Moroccan households have to go into debt or draw on their savings to cover expenses. Only 2.8% manage to save. The gap between economic growth and purchasing power helps explain the prominence given to social measures in the next budget.

The 2027 finance bill also provides for a national program for young people, covering the period 2027-2031, with training, career support and access-to-financing initiatives. A budget of 25 billion dirhams is also intended to speed up territorial development programs.
For households, the two main announcements therefore remain the reform of markets and prices and the promised increase in social assistance. The details still need to be set out in the draft budget and its implementing texts.
