Morocco’s Phosphate Exports Surge 66% as Global Prices Soar

The increase in Moroccan exports of phosphates and derivatives, observed since the beginning of the year, continues. As of the end of last September, revenues have increased sharply by 66.6%, instead of 45.4% a year earlier, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
According to the DEPF, this progress is mainly explained by the 67% increase in sales of phosphate derivatives, due to prices on the international market. However, sales fell by 17.1% in volume, the same source notes, noting that for September alone, fertilizer exports increased by 28.6% in volume and 96.2% in value.
As for foreign sales of raw phosphate, they strengthened, in value, by 63.1% during the same period, against a 43.7% drop in volume. In the first half, the added value of the extractive sector, in volume, fell by 6.3%, after an increase of 1.2% a year earlier, the same source said.
