Morocco Overhauls University System to Boost Graduate Employment

The education system in Morocco is making projections to be updated and in line with the requirements of its stakeholders. It is in this context that the Ministry of Education plans to make some changes to "revolutionize" higher education.
The first foundations of these imminent changes have already been laid, even if it is difficult to measure their scope right away. The objective, according to the ministry, is to rid Moroccan faculties of the cliché of "factories of the unemployed". But what are these changes and what will their impact be on the training given to students?
According to the details provided by the supervisory ministry, the implementation of the "Bachelor’s" degree in public universities must be accompanied by modifications in order to attract more students, especially those from middle and upper class families.
Officially, the Bachelor’s degree will crown a four-year course. But with the reform taking place in the sector, some students will have the choice to complete it much earlier. That is to say, the diploma can be obtained after a course of only three years, for those who wish it and have the capacity.
The second novelty concerns modulation. It will allow students to change specialties and compose certain subjects or modules themselves, according to their needs.
As for the third modification, it relates to alternating education. It is officially making its way into public higher education to create more bridges between the world of work and degree-granting training. And that’s not all. This third novelty calls for other changes such as distance or online training.
In addition to all this, the ministry plans to strengthen exchange programs with foreign universities, as is done in private education, to attract more students, who will also benefit from the bank loan program to finance their studies abroad.
