Morocco's Organic Farmers Unite to Boost Sector Under 'Green Generation' Strategy

The organic product producers in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, now grouped into an association, are organizing around their activity in order to better benefit from the ongoing reforms in the organic sector. This is a reform carried by the new agricultural strategy "Génération Green".

The new melting pot called "Regional Association of Organic Agricultural Product Producers" intends to work to instill and disseminate the organic culture among the inhabitants of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, rich in about 1,700 ha of organic farmland, noted Alami Aroussi, founder of the largest organic carob farm in the province of Khémisset, to the MAP.

According to him, the initiative also aims to support the new agricultural strategy "Génération Green", included in the "Plan Maroc Vert" policy and which aims to reach 14,000 ha of cultivated areas by 2030 at the regional level, of which 5,450 ha will be converted to organic as part of the projects of solidarity agriculture, with 3,600 ha of olive and carob trees.

With its 1,700 ha of mainly organic cultivable land, the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra Region, where farmers are increasingly turning to organic production, is an important platform for citrus fruits, market gardening, arboriculture, fodder crops and medicinal and aromatic plants.

Indeed, since January 2021, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, the ORMVA of Gharb and the Regional Directorate of Agricultural Advice have been raising awareness among certified organic operators in the region recognized by the Control and Certification Bodies (OCC).
