Morocco Offers Masks at Fraction of French Prices, Sparking Online Debate

In a video that has gone viral on social media, a man is seen buying a batch of protective masks. When asked the price of the masks, he was told 8 dirhams, or 8 cents of an euro for a pack of 10.
The video was widely commented on by Internet users. Some have even been outraged that France has not been able to do better than the kingdom, reports France info.
On social media, some Internet users note that the price of masks is much lower in Morocco than in France. For the journalist, the same mask can cost up to 95 cents in France, a ceiling price set by the state. Since April 7, wearing a mask has been mandatory in Morocco and the government subsidizes their production. Thanks to this subsidy, the Moroccan can afford his mask at a lower cost, unlike the French.
According to the same source, the French are more dependent on imported products. So it takes about 30 cents of an euro, the purchase of a mask in China, to which must be added the transport costs, customs duties and the cost of packaging, it is explained.
Moreover, in large-scale distribution, a surgical mask is on average sold at 60 cents in France. This can be explained by the fact that the state has reduced the VAT on this product from 20 to 5.5%, arguing that it is now a basic necessity product. Even at this rate, thanks to subsidies, the kingdom is far from the price practiced in France.
