Morocco’s OCP Group to Double Phosphoric Acid Production with New Plant

The OCP Group and its German (Budenheim) and Belgian (Prayon) partners want to build a new purified phosphoric acid production plant, through their subsidiary Euro Maroc Phosphore (EMAPHOS).
In a press release, the group indicates that this new plant will double EMAPHOS’ annual production capacity, from 140,000 T P2 O5/year to 280,000 T P2 O5/year starting in the 4th quarter of 2022.
This project is part of the OCP Group and its partners’ strategy to establish its global leadership in the production of purified phosphoric acid by the wet process, a technology recognized as BAT (Best Available Technique) in terms of CO2 emissions, the same source specifies.
Similarly, this project will make it possible to meet the developments of the global market for purified phosphoric acid for specialized uses, the same source points out. Moreover, this doubling of capacity will make available to the OCP Group a portion of the production for future valorization in the form of niche products based on purified acid, thus strengthening the Group’s status as a global producer of specialty phosphate products.
Given its location within the Jorf Lasfar platform, this project will benefit from great synergies and economies of scale thanks to its direct access to the infrastructure, shared services and raw materials made available to it by the OCP Group within this platform, the press release continues.
The basic engineering studies having been finalized in March 2020, the project is now at the detailed study stage, the group informs. Long lead equipment will be ordered from the 3rd quarter of 2020 and the start of construction work is scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2021, concludes the same source.
