Morocco’s Music Scene Silenced as Artists Stand with Protesters

Several figures from the Moroccan music scene have spoken out to announce the postponement of their events. Singer Rym Fikri was one of the first, cancelling her scheduled concert in Brussels on October 10. For his part, rapper Lbenj confirmed the "cancellation of all" his concerts for the moment, while his colleague Inkonnu has postponed the release of a new track.

"Singing and celebration cannot be a priority," explained Rym Fikri. A sentiment shared by singer Jaylann, who has postponed her first international tour in Paris and Brussels, stating that she could not "sing, dance or celebrate while her country is going through sad times".

The movement has affected a large part of the sector. Artist Tawsen has also postponed the release of a new song. A major concert that was to bring together Lebanese and Moroccan stars in Casablanca has been cancelled, as well as shows by rapper Don Bigg and the group Hoba Hoba Spirit, according to Hespress.

These successive cancellations come as the demonstrations led by the GenZ 212 movement continue for the seventh consecutive day in several cities. This movement is calling for reforms in the education and health sectors as well as the fight against corruption.
