Morocco Leads Non-EU Importers of French Soft Wheat Despite April Decline

In April 2021, Morocco imported the largest share of French soft wheat, making it the leading non-EU customer of the hexagon. This is about a quarter less than the volume shipped in March.
"238,900 tons, or nearly a quarter less than the volume shipped in March," is the figure for soft wheat imports from France made by Morocco last April, according to the Reuters agency. However, France’s soft wheat exports outside the EU in April were the lowest of the month in about nine years, the agency notes, pointing out that Morocco’s imports have eased according to information from the global data and infrastructure provider Refinitiv. Thus, for the month of April, the 10th month of the 2020/2021 season, France’s exports totaled 665,600 tons.
In general, cereal exports from French ports to all destinations reached 1.1 million tons. This drop is linked to the decline in supplies due to a poor French harvest in 2020, the decline in customer demand and especially the increase in prices that have excluded French wheat from foreign competitiveness. It should be noted that in April last year, feed barley exports to China reached 16,800 tons. But since last month, there have been no more malting barley shipments from French ports, Refinitiv specified.
