Morocco Leads Foreign Labor Influx as Belgium Tackles Worker Shortages

Morocco is at the top of the top 5 major providers of labor in the Belgian job market, where shortages are proving significant in certain sectors.
Foreign labor to save Belgian companies from shortages. This is the option that Belgian companies have chosen. The rate of workers from another country was 14.8% in 2021 and 12.6% in 2017. With 9%, Morocco is the largest provider of labor in the Belgian job market last year, notes Acerta, a Belgian organization active in the provision of human resources services, which publishes the conclusions of a report on the subject on Monday. It is followed by the French (8.2%) and the Dutch (7.3%). Then comes Romania (7%). Poland (5.6%) completes the top 5. These foreigners represent 15% of active people in the job market who do not have Belgian nationality.
What about the sectors in which foreigners are active? We can mention the transport and logistics sectors (which have 25.7% of non-Belgians), food (21.1%), hospitality (18.8%) and construction (17.8%). In addition to the objective of filling vacant positions, "research has repeatedly shown that diversity is beneficial to the atmosphere and creativity in the workplace," concludes Acerta. The rate of Belgian workers is 84.2%.
