Morocco Launches Initiative to Boost Women’s Soccer Development

The promotion and development of women’s football was the subject of a contract that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) signed on Thursday, August 6, 2020. It was with the National Women’s Football League (LNFF), the Regional Leagues and the National Technical Directorate (DTN) for the development of women’s football.
During the signing of this performance contract, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF, congratulated all the actors of Moroccan football, in recognition of the efforts made for the development of women’s football. He reiterated the Federation’s commitment to working for "the development of this discipline through the development of a participatory work strategy aimed at a real commitment to the promotion of national women’s football."
As for Khadija Ila, president of the LNFF, she explained that the purpose of this contract is to contribute to the development of the discipline in Morocco. And to achieve this, it requires "the expansion of the base of practitioners and the restructuring of clubs." She also thanked all the clubs as well as the president of the FRMF for "the interest shown in women’s football," reports frmf.ma.
For his part, DTN Osian Roberts called on all stakeholders to bring together all the appropriate conditions to allow "the Moroccan girl to play football." Speaking on behalf of the presidents of the Regional Leagues, Hakim Doumou, the president of the Gharb league, referred to "the role of the FRMF in the development of football and the efforts of its president to promote women’s football." The sports component of this performance contract consists of "the launch of a professional championship (D1, D2) from next season, and the establishment of a national U17 championship and regional youth championships."
The financial component will ensure "an increase in the annual subsidy allocated to women’s football clubs provided they comply with the terms of the contract." It will also "allocate 100,000 dirhams to the Regional Leagues for the development of women’s football," and support the administrative and financial management of the clubs by the DTN and the Financial Directorate of the FRMF.
As for the technical component, it aims to bring the number of women’s football practitioners to "90,000 by 2024." It will ensure the training of not only "10,000 technical staff within the women’s football clubs," but also the "development of the general level of the National Pro Championship (D1, D2), the Regional League Championship and the Youth Championship," the same source specifies.
