Morocco to Launch Platform Encouraging Diaspora Investment

Karim Zidane, the delegate minister in charge of investment, convergence and evaluation of public policies, encourages Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to invest more in Morocco, stressing the need for the kingdom to attract both domestic and foreign investments.
"Moroccans around the world love their homeland, and this is not an overbid compared to Moroccans inside the country, but a proven truth. Moroccans abroad have a deep connection with their country of origin and always nurture the dream of participating in the progress and development it is experiencing," said Zidane in an interview with Hespress, specifying that "Moroccans around the world have significant skills that have enabled them to succeed in their countries of residence, where they hold high positions in global companies, governments and decision-making centers. Consequently, these skills must be leveraged in Morocco."
Regarding MRE investments in Morocco, the government member indicated that "the peculiarity of Moroccan investors residing abroad, unlike foreign investors who are looking for profit - which is normal -, is that Moroccans around the world prefer to invest in their regions and in their place of birth in Morocco," stressing that "this choice reflects a nostalgia for the homeland and the land, as well as a sense of responsibility towards their place of birth and their social environment, thus contributing to the development of these regions and the improvement of the living conditions of their inhabitants."
He added: "Moroccans around the world are patient and take more risks than foreign investors, because their attachment and love for their homeland push them to embark on this adventure. However, what we must do, and on which we are currently working, is to provide them with information in the languages of the countries where they reside, because many investors from the diaspora wish to obtain information on investment in Morocco and on the type of support granted to investors, in the languages they master."
Zidane also announced that "work is underway to create a computer platform using artificial intelligence technologies to answer free of charge the questions of Moroccan investors residing abroad," recalling that "all the promotional campaigns we are conducting abroad to make known the investment opportunities and incentives in Morocco include a dimension specifically intended for Moroccans abroad." Finally, the delegate minister assured that "the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports, as well as the regional investment agencies in the twelve regions of the Kingdom, are mobilized to welcome and support these Moroccans and collaborate with them until the realization of their projects."
