Morocco’s King Mohammed VI Pledges Financial Support for Notre-Dame Reconstruction

Chakib Benmoussa, the Moroccan ambassador to France, had a meeting this Thursday with Michel Aupetit, the Archbishop of Paris, during which the ambassador informed the archbishop that the king had decided that Morocco will make a financial contribution to the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, after the fire that ravaged it.
According to a statement from the Moroccan embassy in France, the ambassador, first of all, during this meeting with the Archbishop of Paris, reiterated "the expression of support, compassion and solidarity of King Mohammed VI", on behalf of all Moroccans, following the fire that "ravaged the Notre-Dame Cathedral, a symbol of the city of Paris, the history of France and a place of worship for millions of believers".
After that, Chakib Benmoussa informed Aupetit that on the instructions of King Mohammed VI "the Kingdom of Morocco has decided to make a financial contribution to the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris". The amount was not disclosed.
The archbishop later declared to MAP: "I want to thank His Majesty the King of Morocco" for the contribution, which he saw as an "important sign of friendship". "Thank you for this generous contribution and this sign of friendship, we are extremely touched by it," he also stated.
