Morocco Introduces Bilingual Education in Primary Schools for Math and Science

Language alternation in primary schools will be effective from the 2019-2020 school year. For this experimental phase, mathematics and scientific activity will be scheduled in the fifth and sixth years of primary school.
The measure will be generalized, from this year, to the fifth and sixth years of primary school and will cover two subjects, mathematics and scientific activity, reports Le360.
The objective of this measure is to improve the quality of learning and strengthen the mastery of foreign languages among students.
According to the same source, the implementation of this decision is in line with the execution of the terms of two circulars previously addressed by the Ministry of National Education to its external services. These are circular 072/19 dated June 18 and 020/19, which are part of the implementation of the Strategic Vision of the 2015-2030 Reform, specifies the same source.
Moreover, the Ministry’s initiative takes shape in a context marked by a controversy over the teaching of scientific and technical subjects in foreign languages, in particular French.
