Morocco Intelligence Helps France Foil Terrorist Plot Against Church

Morocco, through the DGST, enabled the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI) of France to arrest last Sunday in Béziers, five women including one of Moroccan origin. One of them is suspected of wanting to commit a violent act.
These arrests were carried out "in the working-class neighborhood of La Dévèze", southeast of Béziers. The Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) transmitted, on April 1, 2021, to the French foreign and domestic intelligence services (DGSE-DGSI), precise information concerning a French citizen of Moroccan origin, who was preparing an imminent terrorist operation targeting a place of worship in France (church), reports the MAP.
The information provided by the DGST included personal data on the main suspect and her email addresses, as well as strategic points on the terrorist project she was about to carry out in coordination with elements of the terrorist organization "Daesh". Her suicidal project would be to commit a massacre within a church. She also planned to behead worshippers, inspired by the videos and digital content disseminated by the terrorist organization "Daesh", which she regularly watched.
The sharing of this information with the French services is part of Morocco’s adherence to the mechanisms of international cooperation in the fight against terrorist organizations, the consecration of peace and stability in the world, as well as in the wake of the strengthening of cooperation between the DGST and the French intelligence services in the fight against terrorism and in the face of the resurgence of threats of violent extremism targeting the safety and security of the citizens of the two countries, it is pointed out.
