Morocco Implements $1.4 Billion Subsidy to Freeze Electricity Rates Amid Global Energy Crisis

The Moroccan government has announced the implementation of strong measures to guarantee the stability of electricity rates on the domestic market, despite the international situation.
While energy prices are soaring worldwide, Morocco will put in place a tariff shield to mitigate the shock at the national level, as is the case with basic foodstuffs.
This is what the government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, said, stating that a subsidy will be granted by the government to curb the rise in prices.
Thus, a budget of 14 billion dirhams will be mobilized for the National Electricity Office (ONEE), to keep consumer prices unchanged.
Regarding basic necessities, the minister recalled that government intervention on the price of sugar is estimated at 3 billion dirhams, while that of flour, since November, has reached 1 billion dirhams.
