Morocco Files FIFA Complaint Over 'Deplorable' Reception in DR Congo Ahead of World Cup Qualifier

The Atlas Lions arrived on Tuesday in Kinshasa in an unusual atmosphere marked by the absence of official representatives of FECOFA, the poor condition of the buses assigned to them and a shocking lack of security. A situation that did not please the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

Highly upset by the situation, the FRMF immediately sent a letter to FIFA to denounce the deplorable reception it received upon arrival in Kinshasa, as part of the first leg between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), this Friday, March 25, counting for the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup.

According to some members of the Moroccan delegation, there was a total lack of fair play at the Ndjili international airport in the DRC. "We regret to express to you herewith a strong protest in the face of the anti-Fair-play actions that took place today on the arrival of the delegation of the Moroccan national team in Kinshasa, which does not bode well for a stay under normal conditions," the FRMF wrote first.

The Moroccan body says it is surprised to find itself in hostile territory already at the airport. "First of all, we were unpleasantly surprised by the absence of an official representative of FECOFA at the airport reception at the time of the delegation’s arrival. We were surprised that the two buses that the FRMF had rented to provide airport-hotel transportation were not available before arrival. These two rental buses simultaneously, suddenly and strangely had sudden breakdowns."

And to top it all off, the Moroccan delegation found itself in front of Congolese supporters with hostile chants, almost blocking the way. In this sense, the body deplores a lack of security even though it has hired a private security company costing $3,500 per day.

In its letter, the FRMF asks CAF to take the necessary measures so that they do not recur.
