Morocco Faces €100,000 Lawsuit Over Holocaust Memorial Demolition

The demolition of the Holocaust Memorial by the Moroccan authorities for lack of authorization has provoked the anger of the NGO behind the project. It has just demanded compensation of 100,000 euros from the Moroccan state for the losses suffered.
The German NGO, Pixel Helper, had begun construction work on a space in tribute to the Jews murdered by the Nazis during the Second World War, in the Commune of Aït Fasqa, near Marrakech.
Due to lack of authorization, the authorities proceeded to demolish the Memorial, provoking the anger of the NGO which, in a press release published on Facebook, denounces this act which it describes as profane.
"Pixel Helper protests against the disproportionate destruction of the Memorial to the Jews murdered in Europe and against the persecution of minorities such as Roma, Muslim Uighurs and gays," the Association writes.
When questioned about the authorization issue, the project founder, Oliver Bienkowski, criticized the authorities’ indifference. He specified: "Unfortunately, from the outset, the authorities refused any cooperation and, during the first year, all requests for meetings were rejected by the mayor."
Due to the damage suffered and the desecration of valuable objects such as the rainbow and expensive equipment, the NGO is demanding compensation from the Moroccan state, worth 100,000 euros.
