Morocco Eyes Alstom’s High-Capacity Hydrogen Trains for Rail Modernization

Morocco is showing interest in the new hydrogen trains from the French rail manufacturer Alstom. These are eco-friendly trains that can transport 220 passengers.
The Bourgogne Franche-Comté region ordered three hydrogen-powered TERs on Friday. A first order for this first French hydrogen train that also interests Morocco. A country that is increasingly committed to the modernization of rail transport. "The originality of this train compared to those developed in Germany is a very large capacity and that they operate on an electrified line and run on hydrogen when we are no longer electrified," explains Michel Neugnot, first vice-president in charge of Transport for the Bourgogne Franche-Comté region, to AFP.
The hydrogen train can carry up to 220 passengers for a range of between 400 and 600 km. Its top speed can reach 160 km/h. The first tests are scheduled for "2022-2023". "For passengers, it’s a new experience. In a hydrogen train, you have a sense of calm, serenity. There is no noise and no vibration unlike diesel trains," explains Henri Poupart Lafarge, CEO of Alstom.
