Morocco Extends Tax Deadlines for Businesses Impacted by Coronavirus

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) has granted companies with a turnover of 20 million dirhams (MDH) or more, the staggering or postponement of tax payment, due to the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on economic activity.
In a press release published on its website, the DGI explains that the benefit of these gracious measures is subject to an individualized examination of the requests, taking into account the circumstances invoked and the elements justifying the situation and the financial difficulties of each company.
It also recalled the tax measures recently adopted by the Economic Monitoring Committee (CVE) on March 16, 2020 as part of a preventive approach, and taking into account the impact of the pandemic (covid-19) on the economy.
In this perspective, the regional managers are invited to assess "with particular benevolence and great attention, on a case-by-case basis" the requests for postponement made by the defaulting companies with regard to the obligations relating to the payment of taxes in order to "reasonably grant them the appropriate measure of benevolence".
According to the tax authorities, the postponement of deadlines concerns the declaration of the tax result, the balance of corporate tax due for the 2019 fiscal year, the 1st provisional installment due for the current fiscal year. It also notes that the companies concerned automatically benefit from this postponement, without formality, "the turnover declared for the 2018 fiscal year being the reference".
