Morocco Expands Large Taxi Capacity to 6 Passengers Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Following the easing of restrictive measures decreed by the government, large taxis have decided to increase their capacity, now transporting 6 passengers instead of 5.
This new measure was taken by the trade unions in the sector, representatives of the large taxis, to compensate for the losses related to Covid-19 and especially to cope with the rise in fuel prices, reports l’Opinion.
Gathered to take stock of their sector, the union leaders said they were "concerned about the repercussions of these successive increases on the future of their activity, while the entire road sector has been suffering for several months."
Thus, it was allowed for large taxis to transport six passengers instead of five, as previously decided within the framework of preventive measures to counter the pandemic, said Nabil Lhoum, secretary general of the General Union of Unionist Workers of Morocco (UGTUM).
Very early on, some citizens expressed their disagreement with the pricing related to this measure. They denounced the application of the same price as when transporting five passengers, while they are now transporting six. According to them, this is an illegal practice that requires regulation by the authorities.
