Morocco Expands Diplomatic Presence: 23 New Consular Appointments, Including 4 in France

A major diplomatic personnel movement has been initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, several of them in France.
No less than twenty-three consular posts have been filled, representing 38% of the total, following a call for applications. These appointments target regions where the Moroccan diaspora is particularly numerous, notably in France (Lyon, Dijon, Strasbourg and Marseille).
The reopening of two consulates in Libya, in Tripoli and Benghazi, as well as the opening of a new Consulate General in Miami, United States, are on the program. These appointments are intended to alleviate the pressure on the existing consular services, particularly in New York and Washington, while ensuring better service to the local Moroccan community.
The ministry has taken a step forward in promoting gender equality. Indeed, 39% of the new appointments of Consuls General concern women, compared to 28% the previous year, with key positions in the United States, Canada and Italy. The overall rate of women holding the position of Consul General is now 37%.
These new appointments also demonstrate a policy of valuing experience and renewal, explains the ministry. 22% of the positions have been awarded to Consuls General who have proven themselves, while 26% are former Consuls General with significant experience. The press release also states that a balance has been sought between the promotion of new skills and the exploitation of proven experience, with 52% of the appointed Consuls General being first-time appointees.
