Morocco to Expand English Education in Middle Schools Nationwide by 2025

The teaching of English will be generalized in middle schools in Morocco starting from the 2023-2024 school year, announced Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, in a note.
In a circular addressed to the various officials of his department, to the directors of middle school education establishments and to the teachers of the English language, the minister indicated that for the academic year 2023-2024, the coverage rate of English teaching will be 10 to 50%, and will go from 50% to 100% from the 2024-2025 school year. The generalization of English teaching in middle schools will be total from the 2025-2026 academic year, it is specified.
Students will have two hours of English per week. The supervisory ministry will set up a central steering and monitoring commission for this reform, chaired by the ministry’s secretary general and composed of the heads of the relevant central directorates. Regional commissions will also be set up and placed under the direct supervision of the directors of the Regional Academies of Education and Training (AREF).
This program for the generalization of English teaching will be developed with the participation of all stakeholders (AREF, educational actors and international partners). A pedagogical kit and a training and support system for teachers will also be developed, as well as digital resources and libraries that will be made available to teachers and students.
