Morocco Exempts Commercial Fleets from Vehicle Tax Amid Pandemic Impact

Heavily impacted by the coronavirus crisis, companies owning vehicles immobilized for a year or more can benefit from a temporary one-year exemption. All vehicles are concerned, except for passenger cars, other than certain 4x4s, minibuses and rental vehicles.

According to L’Économiste, the rental companies had suggested in the context of the 2021 finance bill, the exemption of the vehicle sticker by way of compensation for those who paid in 2020 due to the economic impact of the coronavirus. Their request was not accepted, it is reported.

This exemption takes into account companies that have paid their immobilization tax for the year 2020. In addition, the amount of the sticker already paid last year cannot be refunded despite the vehicle being stopped. The same source recalls that this measure had been introduced by the 2017 finance law. It allows individuals or structures with a vehicle of at least 3,000 kg, immobilized for a year or more, to request exemption from the special automobile vehicle tax (TSAV), it is specified.

Regarding tourist transport companies, school transport... forced to immobilize their fleet, due to the health crisis, they will be subject to article 260 bis of the general tax code. But they will have to make a request to the tax administration to benefit from it.

"Owners who have obtained the exemption can request a certificate from the tax administration. The owners concerned must therefore check to what extent they could benefit from this measure," it is added.
