Morocco Emerges as Potential Key Partner for European Economic Sovereignty, Says Economist Attali

Morocco’s ability to produce protective masks in quantity to the point of exporting them could make the country a privileged partner for Europe’s economic sovereignty. This is a reflection led by the French writer and economist Jacques Attali.
The French economist and writer stated that "Morocco has behaved particularly well even though it is currently suffering from the effects of the Covid-19 crisis, which has affected a major sector of its economy, which is tourism". Jacques Attali remains seduced by Morocco’s success in "ensuring its food sovereignty and its autonomy in the production of health equipment".
According to him, "Morocco could be an alternative to China in the value chain at a time when Europe has strongly felt, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the loss of industrial sovereignty and its strong dependence on China". Morocco, according to the writer, has a new role to play. "It would be better to produce masks, medicines, respirators and essential tools of the life economy in Morocco than in China or in less close and less reliable countries".
It should be noted that at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, European countries experienced a severe shortage of protective masks and medical equipment that came exclusively from China. Thus, in order not to find themselves again in such a difficulty, several voices have been raised to "demand the relocation of European industries". And Morocco, given its geographical position, is "considered a credible partner to host the vital industries relocated from China".
