Morocco Eases Border Crossing for Ceuta Residents, Eliminates Passport Stamps

The Moroccan border police have stopped requiring stamps on passports from travelers to and from Ceuta. A measure welcomed by the association of residents of the autonomous city.
Since the reopening of the Ceuta border with Morocco on May 17, the visa exemption granted to Moroccans from Tetouan to enter and leave the city has been removed. But the stamps on the passports of residents from Ceuta have been lifted, to the great satisfaction of travelers who suffer from monstrous traffic jams at the border, especially on weekends.
"Moroccan agents continue to scan passports, a process that takes time in addition to document control, but the authorities have promised to try to improve the crossing time and we hope they will succeed by the end of the year," said Abdelmalik Mohamed, president of the association of Ceuta residents, to El Faro de Ceuta.
For its part, Spain has also taken measures to facilitate the crossing at the border by agreeing to add a blank page to the passports already full of stamps of Moroccan citizens who cross the border daily to allow them to obtain the appropriate entry and exit stamps.
"Thank you to the government delegation and the national police for this gesture. It is a solution that should be publicly welcomed, as renewing a passport in Morocco is a difficult and expensive process," added the president of the association.
