Morocco Denies Rumors of Tax Hike for Self-Employed Workers

The 2022 Finance Bill did not provide for a change in the tax regime for the self-employed. According to the government, the average declarations of this category do not exceed 4,000 dirhams per month.
When questioned about this rumor, which suggests a revision of the income tax calculation scale for self-employed workers, Mustapha Baitas provided a formal denial, adding that the 2022 Finance Bill did not plan to reconsider the tax regime for self-employed workers.
The government had previously rejected amendments aimed at raising the annual turnover limit for service providers from 200,000 to 500,000 dirhams, as is the case for commercial, industrial and craft activities, he specified.
Thus, and in accordance with the legislation and regulations in force, natural persons, operating individually as self-employed, are subject to income tax, applying one of the following rates to the turnover collected: 0.5% on the amount not exceeding 500,000 DH for commercial, industrial and craft activities and 1% on the amount not exceeding 200,000 DH for service provision.
