Morocco’s COVID-19 Reproduction Rate Drops to 0.92, Weekly Cases Decline

The coronavirus reproduction rate (R0) has seen a slight decline in the past two weeks. It stood at 0.92% this Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health.
During the bi-weekly review of the epidemiological situation, the head of the Communicable Diseases Division at the Ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, announced that the weekly epidemiological curve related to Covid-19 in Morocco has seen a decline until December 6.
In detail, the Oriental region shows a decrease of -25%, compared to -22% in Darâa-Tafilalet. Guelmim-Oued Noun and Casablanca-Settat indicate -21% and -14% respectively. As for Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Marrakech-Safi, they each recorded -5%. Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Fès-Meknès recorded -2% and -1% respectively. Only Beni Mellal-Khénifra (+17%) and Souss-Massa (+8%) have seen an increase in the weekly epidemiological curve, the official said.
A decline was also noted in the death toll during the same period. The kingdom ranks 2nd on the African continent and 36th globally in terms of screening tests. In total, more than 4 million PCR screening tests have been carried out since the beginning of the pandemic.
