Morocco’s COVID-19 Business Relief Falls Short: Only 16% of Firms Access Emergency Credit

The complex conditions of access to credits erected by the banks did not allow several companies to benefit from Covid credits. Despite the guarantee of the CCG, only 16% of these companies have taken advantage of this reform.
In total, 50 billion DH have been released out of the 75 billion planned for these companies facing cash flow problems. According to the results of the HCP survey of companies, "these credits benefit a rather limited population of companies and have limited effects on the situation of the beneficiaries due to the persistence of the health crisis and the locks on mobility". This is a study carried out on the abysmal revenue losses in hotels and restaurants, construction, real estate activities, the textile and leather industry.
According to L’Économiste, these banks have been invited to make a rigorous selection in order not to let "zombie" companies infiltrate. The same source specifies that a small proportion (16%) of companies have benefited from state-guaranteed loans while only 18% have obtained a deferral of maturities. The reasons given by these companies to explain the rejection of their files are related to the complexity of the procedures (24%), the lack of support (18%) and insolvency.
