Morocco Considers French Naval Group for First Submarine Acquisition

Morocco could turn to the French Naval Group for the acquisition of a submarine, the only missing equipment in the arsenal of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). A few months ago, information had indicated a Moroccan preference for a Russian Amur-class submarine.
After the Russian, Greek or Portuguese option, Morocco would have finally chosen the French Naval Group for the order of a submarine for the benefit of the Royal Navy, reports Africa Intelligence.
Before the French, Morocco would have engaged in negotiations with Russia for the acquisition of an Amur-class submarine, a 4th generation diesel-electric propulsion vessel, with an export version. But unlike the Russian vessel, the Scorpène-type submarine proposed by the French has already been tested by the navies of Chile, Malaysia, India and Brazil. The very discreet vessel is equipped with an integrated combat system and a centralized and automated platform control system, which guarantee it a high level of safety when submerged.
For more than a decade, Morocco has been modernizing the FAR by acquiring new military equipment in order to meet the new security challenges in the region.
