Morocco Considers Extending Social Protection to Migrants in Nationwide Program

Morocco is considering including migrants in the generalization of social protection, currently under construction. Reflections in this direction are being carried out within the government.
It is the ambassador, permanent representative of Morocco in Geneva, Omar Zniber, who raised the issue in a speech, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the Executive Committee of the UNHCR program, specifying that mechanisms are being developed in Morocco to expand and generalize access for foreigners residing in Morocco to the ambitious project of generalization of social protection, reports the MAP.
Moreover, this layer has recently been taken into account in the vaccination campaign against "Covid-19", he recalled. For the diplomat, this attention towards migrants is not circumstantial but is part of the national policy of migration and asylum. It is a consecration of the constitutional component of the Kingdom and its international obligations.
This policy reflects the awareness of the importance of the individual responsibility of each country, and also embodies the excellent and continuous cooperation between Morocco and UNHCR, he added, noting that Morocco was the first African country to receive a UNHCR team.
For its part, UNHCR has welcomed Morocco’s commitment to the protection, support and integration of refugees, as well as the quality of its cooperation with its structures. According to the representative, the organization’s actions around the world are the embodiment of the collective responsibility to develop sustainable solutions according to a humanitarian vision of service and protection.
