Morocco’s Citrus and Vegetable Exports Surge Amid Global Challenges

Despite the difficult health situation the world is going through, the export of agricultural products continues to rise in Morocco. The prospects for this sector are also very encouraging.
"The current situation is marked by a favorable commercial situation on international markets for clementines and citrus fruits in general," says the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests. Clementine exports alone reached a volume of 106,600 tons in the period from September 1 to November 22, an increase of 60% compared to last year.
As for vegetable products, they have seen an improvement of 15% reaching 214,500 tons and 117,400 tons for tomatoes, an increase of 3% in exports to the international market as of November 22. In addition, pepper and chili pepper exports have improved by 27% compared to the 2019-2020 season, reaching a volume of 19,400 tons. As for raspberry exports, they recorded an increase of 17%, or a volume of 6,500 tons, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.
"In parallel with the export campaign, the autumn crop rotation program for the current agricultural season is progressing well. The achievements as of November 20 have reached 62,700 hectares, or 60% of the program set by the agriculture department," the daily said, noting that the realization rate of major crops ranges from 42% for onions to 88% for tomatoes, passing through 62% for potatoes.
However, "due to the delay in rainfall, the achievements of the major autumn crops have so far reached 1,200,000 hectares, or 21% of the overall program set for all crops, with a realization rate of 74% for sugar crops," the Ministry of Agriculture stressed. But the industrial processing activity of cereals has remained stable, the site specifies.
