Morocco-Cameroon: a metro station closed in Brussels after the victory
The qualification of Morocco for the semi-finals of the 2025 CAN had immediate repercussions in the Belgian capital. On Friday evening, on police orders, the STIB proceeded to the preventive closure of the Étangs Noirs metro station in Molenbeek, fearing disturbances on the sidelines of the celebrations.
The party was in full swing after the final whistle sealing the victory of the Atlas Lions over Cameroon (2-0). But to prevent the joy from turning into disorder, the authorities tightened the screws. The Brussels transport company announced the closure of the stop, inviting users to get off at the neighboring Comte de Flandre station to continue their journey on foot.
The surface network was also impacted: bus 13 was limited to Simonis, while lines 20 and 86 were subject to local diversions to bypass the sensitive area.
The precedent of the match against Zambia
This decision was no coincidence. The police had in mind the events that occurred at the end of December, during Morocco’s victory in the round of 16 against Zambia. That evening, about 200 people had gathered in the Étangs Noirs neighborhood. While the atmosphere was initially festive, the situation had ended up deteriorating, leading to tensions.
The law enforcement agencies had also warned: specific security measures are deployed throughout this Africa Cup of Nations to supervise the gatherings of supporters and guarantee public order.
