Morocco Boosts Brussels Airport Recovery as Passenger Traffic Nears Pre-Pandemic Levels

Passenger traffic at Brussels Airport in October reached 81% of 2019 levels before Covid-19. This is partly thanks to Morocco, one of the top ten destination countries.

With nearly 1.9 million passengers transported, traffic at Brussels Airport in October reached 81% of the same month in 2019, the pre-Covid period. "The strong growth in passenger traffic observed this summer is continuing for the 4th consecutive month, reaching 80% of pre-crisis attendance. As in September, business travel is continuing to grow after a sharp decline during the Covid crisis. Dutch travelers are also present in greater numbers at Brussels Airport to avoid the queues at Dutch airports," explains the manager of the Belgian capital’s Brussels Airport.

These performances were achieved thanks to the top ten destination countries. Spain is at the top of the top 10, followed by Germany, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, the United States and France. Greece, the United Kingdom and Morocco close the podium. Turkey and Greece in particular have exceeded the October 2019 results due to the earlier start of the autumn holidays, it is specified.

"Morocco has just experienced the worst drought in 40 years, threatening water and agricultural systems," Olivér Várhelyi said in a statement, justifying the relevance of this agreement signed with Morocco. The agreement provides for the planting of nearly 600,000 olive trees of more than eight different varieties by 2030. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Moroccan olive oil exports increased by 47% over the first eight months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
