Morocco Bids to Host Formula 1 Grand Prix in Tangier
Morocco has applied to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix. If its application is accepted, the race will take place in Tangier.
After hosting a "Formula 1" race in 1958, on the seaside circuit of Aïn Diab in Casablanca, will Morocco host the Formula 1 Grand Prix? Tangier "is expected to host a circuit to international standards specifically designed for Formula 1, a project currently under study and awaiting only approval," we learn. In the event of validation of Morocco’s candidacy, this project will mark an important step in motorsports in Morocco and Africa, particularly thanks to the strategic location of the city of Tangier.
For the record, Morocco had received a proposal from the International Automobile Federation to host one of the Formula 1 competitions in order to promote this sport in Africa, but the kingdom did not meet the conditions, as the necessary infrastructure was not available. Today, Morocco has the Moulay El Hassan circuit in Marrakech, which has already hosted a round of the Formula E World Championship. However, its layout does not exceed 2.8 kilometers.
