Morocco Bans Watermelon Farming in Drought-Hit Regions to Conserve Water

Morocco has maintained restrictive measures on water-intensive crops. First, watermelon, the cultivation of which is prohibited in several cities and regions of the kingdom such as Sidi Kacem, Errachidia, Tinghir, or Zagoura.
In Sidi Kacem for example, restrictive measures have been taken to further combat illegal water withdrawals from drinking water networks, wells or irrigation canals. Actions will also be taken to detect and repair leaks in these distribution networks, relays Hespress.
