Morocco Approves Law Allowing Citizens to Generate Their Own Electricity

The government has adopted a legal measure that authorizes any natural or legal person to produce electricity for their own needs, and possibly to be able to use the national grid for its transport.
This provision contained in Draft Law No. 82.21 on self-production of electrical energy was adopted during the government council, said government spokesman Mustapha Baitas, adding that as presented by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, this draft law aims to regulate the production of electrical energy for self-consumption purposes.
In detail, this draft law aims to regulate the activity of self-production of electrical energy for self-consumption purposes, regardless of the source of production, the nature of the network, the voltage level or the capacity of the installation used, while ensuring the security of the national electricity grid and compliance with the principles of transparency and non-discrimination between the various stakeholders, Baitas specified.
It also provides for three systems that govern self-production in the case of interconnection with electricity grids: the declaration system, the connection system and the authorization system. The characteristics of each system will be defined by regulation.
