Morocco and Spain Negotiate Customs Office at Ceuta Border to Normalize Trade

Morocco and Spain "continue to work" on the modalities for setting up a commercial customs office at the Tarajal border in Ceuta.
The joint declaration that sanctioned the meeting between Pedro Sanchez and Mohammed VI in Rabat on April 7 affirmed the commitment of the two parties to work for "the complete normalization of the movement of people and goods", including "the appropriate mechanisms for customs and personal control at land and sea borders", recalls El Faro de Ceuta.
"We are convinced that this is the most effective formula to put an end to atypical trade or smuggling, a paramount and shared objective with Morocco," said sources close to the ongoing negotiations for the installation of a commercial customs office in Ceuta on Monday, stressing that the process will evolve in a "progressive" manner, as was the case for the reopening of land borders.
For the moment, the objective of the Tax Administration is "to develop the necessary infrastructure and have the required personnel for its implementation as soon as possible". No date has been set for the opening of this commercial customs office, but what is known is that it will have a regional scope "to facilitate the transit of products between two neighboring regions belonging to two different countries".
