Morocco and France Forge New Partnership on Energy Transition and Sustainable Development

Morocco and France have decided to strengthen their cooperation in the field of energy transition. To this end, the Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, exchanged on Thursday, May 16, with several French ministers.

Leila Benali met with Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, Franck Riester, Minister Delegate in charge of Foreign Trade, Attractiveness, Francophonie and French Nationals Abroad, and Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry and Energy.

During these exchanges, the two parties welcomed the new dynamic of Franco-Moroccan cooperation and highlighted Morocco’s role as a corridor between Africa and Europe. The opportunity was also seized to discuss partnership opportunities in the fields of sustainable energy, green hydrogen, the circular economy, the sustainability of sporting and cultural events, the integration of energy and carbon markets.

During these meetings with the French ministers, Leila Benali also addressed the issues of certifications and standards, as well as critical minerals, reports Médias24, adding that a particular emphasis was placed on research and innovation, and on the development of human capital.

The Moroccan minister also participated in a meeting on "Energy Transition in Morocco and Regional Integration", organized by the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), in partnership with the Paris Energy Club Foundation. These proceedings were an opportunity for Leila Benali to present to the climate and energy experts, business leaders and diplomats present, Morocco’s strategic orientations in terms of energy transition as well as the prospects in a world facing economic and geopolitical crises.
