Morocco and France Conduct Joint Naval Exercise off Moroccan Coast

The amphibious assault ship (PHA) Dixmude and the Moroccan frigate Mohamed V tried their hand at a bilateral exercise off the Moroccan coast. October 12, 2020 was dedicated to a range of exercises for the benefit of the PHA sailors a few days before the start of the CORYMBE mission.
Despite the current health situation, crew training and combat preparation remain priorities. The pursuit of a suspicious track, refueling at sea, tactical evolution phases, were all exercises in which the crews engaged.
The Dixmude and the frigate carried out the exercise of pursuing a suspicious vessel, without boarding, due to compliance with barrier gestures. The mission of the visiting service in this training is to control the flags and cargoes, to intercept the embarkations transporting clandestines or to fight against arms trafficking, drug trafficking and piracy in general. The Moroccan frigate Mohamed V had evolved in Moroccan territorial waters under a dark sky, before appearing off Casablanca under a clearer sky, on arrival on site.
In order to consolidate the Franco-Moroccan friendship, several exercises have been proposed reciprocally for the upgrading of the respective crews. Likewise, an air defense training was carried out. The PHA Dixmude and the Moroccan frigate also carried out a tactical evolution training in order to confirm their competence to work in a constituted group. The realization of these exercises proves the need for interoperability between the two navies.
