Morocco and EU to Address Schengen Visa Appointment Backlog

State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mounia Boucetta has reacted to the blockage of appointments for the issuance of Schengen visas, and is considering finding a solution with the European services concerned. Today, it is almost impossible for Moroccans to apply for a visa for the summer.
In a statement relayed by Le360, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs announced the holding of a meeting with a European Union commission to study the possibilities of resolving the problem of issuing Schengen visas and responding to citizens’ expectations.
This problem was raised during the oral question session in the House of Representatives on Monday, May 20. "We are closely following this file and in particular the issue of appointments which is causing problems for citizens," she declared to the site.
The two providers in Morocco, BLS International and TLS Contact, had announced their inability to honor new visa applications during the summer period, due to a saturated schedule until September.
It should be noted that last year, 530,000 Moroccans received the visa in 2018, up 3.7% compared to 2017. France is by far in the lead with more than 300,000 visas issued.
