Morocco Allocates 26 Billion Dirhams to Boost Purchasing Power, Support Middle Class

The Government is allocating an envelope of nearly 26 billion dirhams to support the purchasing power of its citizens, particularly the middle class, according to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun.

The financial impact on the State Budget amounts to 11.3 billion dirhams for the year 2020, said Minister Benchaâboun, before the two chambers of Parliament during the presentation of the State Budget.

According to the Minister’s remarks, reported by MAP, an envelope of 14.6 billion dirhams would also be planned to maintain the subsidy on butane gas, sugar and flour.

This support is part of the implementation of the commitments made by the Government during the social dialogue.

The Minister added, however, that an envelope of 14.6 billion dirhams would be reserved for the Compensation Fund, in maintaining the subsidy on butane gas, sugar and flour.

The same media reports that at the social level, allowances are planned in the 2020 Finance Act for widows, amounting to 630 million dirhams and 230 million for people with disabilities.

In addition, an envelope of 18 billion dirhams is dedicated to the reduction of spatial and social disparities, with regard to access to basic social services, health and education, adds the same source.

Furthermore, for the coverage of the Medical Assistance Scheme (RAMED), an amount of 1.7 billion dirhams is planned, in addition to the implementation of medical coverage for self-employed workers and compulsory health insurance (AMO) for students.
