The text does not create a new air agreement and does not overhaul relations between Rabat and Brussels in this field. It aims to take into account Croatia’s accession to the European Union, in order to integrate this country into the existing legal framework.

In its legislative resolution, the European Parliament gives its approval to the conclusion of the protocol amending the agreement between the European Community, its Member States and the Kingdom of Morocco, according to the text adopted by the European Parliament.

A very technical vote

The document refers to the draft Council decision and the draft protocol established to adapt the air agreement to the enlargement of the European Union. The procedure is part of European rules relating to transport and the conclusion of international agreements.

The Parliament also instructs its President to transmit its position to the Council, the European Commission, the governments and parliaments of the Member States, as well as to the Kingdom of Morocco.

This vote above all confirms the continuity of the air framework between Morocco and Europe. It does not settle any new political issue and does not modify, in the adopted text, the overall balance of the existing air agreement.

For Morocco, the stakes remain nevertheless important. The Euro-Mediterranean air agreement organizes an essential part of connections with Europe, the main market for air transport, tourism and travel for Moroccans living abroad.
