Morocco Aims for COVID Herd Immunity Before Ramadan, Vaccination Campaign Underway

Morocco hopes to achieve herd immunity before the start of Ramadan 2021. There is a national strategy to reach group immunity before April 15, announced Professor Moulay Mustapha Ennaji, virologist and director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca.
A few days after the launch of the vaccination campaign by King Mohammed VI, the process continues with the priority target groups, reports Hespress. According to Professor Moulay Mustapha Ennaji, virologist and director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca, Moroccans are fully engaged in this campaign.
The Moroccan virologist specifies that this collective commitment reflects the confidence of Moroccans in the process, making it believe that all the fears that had spread before the arrival of the vaccine have dissipated. "Moroccans have become aware that for the general safety and health of all, the coronavirus page should be turned and that therefore the only solution at the moment is vaccination. Citizens are actively involved in the success of the vaccination process and the two doses will be inoculated at different times depending on the type of vaccine," said the director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca.
For the professor, there is a national strategy to achieve herd immunity before April 15, the probable start date of Ramadan. "Morocco has requested 65 million doses of the vaccine, and it is now required to diversify its sources and open up to new international companies such as Sputnik, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson," recalled Professor Ennaji.
In addition to the priority target groups, vaccination will be extended to people with chronic diseases and those in fragile health as well as adults over 44 years of age, before taking into account the rest of the age groups.
